Needing a break from the daily grind, Clay and I took off for the hills with Seren, our Golden Retriever. With backpacks loaded, we “sailed” up the West Branch Trail in the Rawahs (a section of the Rocky Mountains in northern Colorado), the Twin Crater Lakes Trail and classic Clay-designed bushwhacking trails. (Clay learned creative navigation skills through the National Outdoor Leadership School back in the day.) The fresh air, scenery and solitude that greeted us at 11,000-12,000 feet was exactly what we needed to unwind. We didn’t even talk about boat projects once or go through the still-long punch list. We’ll address the projects and list again soon, though…after a week of work and our return from a four-day bicycle tour along the Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills, South Dakota. We head out for that adventure next Friday (July 12). Stay tuned!
Rocky mountain high – a different kind of sailing

Getting away to the mountains and the cold sounds so amazing right now…it has been pushing the lower nineties for the past two weeks, with no signs of it breaking any time soon. Safe travels!

It was a delightful retreat from the heat. Natural air conditioning and a room with a spectacular view.
I keep meaning to do the AT here locally. Maybe this fall. Might head up to Acadia in Maine during September too.
We have friends who hiked the whole AT…and the PCT AND the Continental Divide Trail. They now live in northern Maine. I think you should go for it!
